The current crisis is throwing up all sorts of challenges with food production and distribution:

But out of a crisis, longer-term solutions can emerge – and one might be this initiative:

.

In My Back Yard is a friendly network of independent, small-scale food producers, wholefood suppliers and residents working together to build a more resilient, nourishing and community-centred food system for the local area. Find out more about us and our long-term plans.

COVID-19 Emergency Response

We are launching an early, emergency response to support our community. We have seen a surge of demand for local food and wish to support the availability of fresh, local food, support our local workers and build a resilient local food supply.

We wish you all the very best of health and thank you for supporting your independent and local small-scale food producers.

“The In My Back Yard local food cooperative is a brilliant idea – delivering locally-produced, delicious food, direct from the farms to your door each week. Exactly the local activism I believe in.”

Hello Ottery!

Emma here, a volunteer for In My Back Yard

A new local food – online-ordering – local delivery service that has a collection point at Fillfull (thanks Fillfull!) on Mill Street.

Yesterday we launched an early Covid-19 Emergency Response service to deal with increased demand for local food in the East Devon area and to increase our resilience for what may become a disrupted global food chain soon.

However – at this time of year it is the ‘hungry gap’ and orders flew off the virtual shelves yesterday so there’s a little less available today but still local vegetables, herbs, chicken and beef available. So do check out our shop and website.

As we find our feet we will offer more groceries, larder items and more collection points.
