Online: Sid Valley Hedgerows
September 15, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Ed Dolphin, Sidmouth Arboretum
The Sid Valley’s hedgerows make a wonderful contribution to the look of the valley, but they make a more important contribution to our biodiversity. They are home to more than 40 woody species, at least 150 herbaceous species, and a myriad of invertebrates and vertebrates. Also, they act as corridors connecting populations that would be isolated otherwise. Sidmouth Arboretum has conducted a survey of the hedgerows which included a fascinating glimpse into their long history.
Ed Dolphin is a tree enthusiast and Treasurer to the Arboretum. He writes regular articles in local media and has just written a book on The Trees of Sidmouth for the SVA.
