online: talk on Sidmouth’s Coast
February 10, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
An invitation from the Sid Vale Association:
Sidmouth’s Coast: What’s going on?
by Roger Trend
This is the story of Sidmouth’s cliffs, beaches, bays, headlands and estuary – where they came from, how they’ve changed and what they are doing now. It’s a story that includes massive sea-level changes which caused our coastline to be occupied, abandoned and re-occupied by the sea, each time creating familiar coastal landforms. Did you know that the Market place is below average high tide? Roger will deal with present-day processes such as cliff erosion and beach formation but not the Beach Management Plan directly. Roger is a retired academic in earth science and lectured at Sheffield, Exeter and Oxford universities. He has several SVA publications and many of you will know him from the Sidmouth Folk Festival Singing the Rocks day.
The talk will be posted on YouTube soon afterwards so it will be available to anyone not able to join on the day.
If you missed any of the previous presentations, they are all available on youtube. Follow the links on the SVA home page.
We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be a most interesting presentation.
