Sidmouth Plastic Warriors: beach clean
January 25 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
A message from the chair of the Plastic Warriors:
Happy New Year! We have hit the ground running in 2020, and are fully invitorated and ready to attack the marine plastic issue again. Saturday January 25th sees the first organised beach clean, 1.30 kindy hosted by the Fort Cafe (only for an hour – a gentle break in to cleaning up again) and these Winter clean ups are so important for getting the really degraded plastic out of the sea, that gets churned up by the storms. Do wrap up warm though! All welcome as ever, and equipment is provided but bring your own if you have it. Please say a thank you to the Fort Cafe by staying for a coffee after to warm those cold fingers, if you have time.
(Remember that on the same day, the 25th, Repair Cafe is on at the Manstone Youth Centre 10-1 – this fits in perfectly with our ethos so if you have anything that is broken, from a treasured possession to kitchen appliances, bikes etc, or if you have skills and would like to be a fixer, do come along!)
I am trying to find out who is still doing their adopt-a-spots, who isn’t (no guilt!) and who would like to join in so do let me know. We have litter pickers available for anyone who wants to regularly take on an area. The map is up on the website at www.sidmouthplasticwarriors.org/adopt-a-spot
Environment Committee at the town council is this Monday and we have lots of very positive ideas coming out – I will keep you posted. Do remember it’s a public meeting so if you fancy coming along you are very welcome (Town Council chambers, 6.30, Monday 13th).
Attached is a poster in jpg and pdf format for the beach clean. Please do post it wherever you can on social media, and print out and put in windows etc if you run a business!
Thanks for your support as ever
