A feast full of events was enjoyed by all generations.

Hundreds turn out to enjoy nature walks and talks apart of Sidmouth Tree Week

Wonderful sunshine greeted young and old when they gathered for a host of walks and talks for Sidmouth’s Tree Week.

The six-day event, organised by Sidmouth Arboretum, finished on Saturday.

More than 200 nature-lovers were able to embark on gentle-paced strolls with short stops to look closely at special trees in and around the town. The walks, led by arboretum chairman Jon Ball and ‘nursery man’ Kevin Croucher, introduced groups to selected trees, many of which were included in Tree Trail walking leaflets.

Diana East, of Sidmouth Arboretum, said: “We learnt not only about the features of individual trees – when they flower, their age, about their leaves but also about their history. Jill Butler from the Woodland Trust, who spoke at one of the talks, took us further back into the origins of our veteran trees and explained that all truly old trees have a wide girth and hollow centre – as seen in the holm oak in The Byes.”
