World Vegan Day in Exeter
November 1, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
EFFA NEWS OCTOBER 2019
Dear EFFA friends,
Guess what? It’s that time of year again when we need to ask for your help in pulling together our usual warm and friendly team of volunteers for the Animal Aid South West Christmas Festival! This year’s event takes place on Saturday 23 November at the Corn Exchange. (Details are on the event page, so you can start planning your cruelty-free Christmas shopping now!) As always, EFFA will be supporting the event, and we need people for a multitude of jobs, e.g. setting up, meeting & greeting, leafleting, serving food, clearing tables, washing up, shaking collecting buckets, packing away and generally helping to make the day go smoothly. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Iain at Animal Aid direct, telling him what times you would be available (e.g. morning 10-12, afternoon 2-4) and which jobs, if any, you would prefer (not) to do. He will then put together a rota and get back to you.
In the meantime, we have a couple of other local events to announce. As most of you will know, Friday 1 November is World Vegan Day, and Viva! are organising a nationwide Day of Action, inviting the public to go vegan for 24 hours (and preferably beyond!) There will be a stall in Exeter High Street/Bedford Square from 11 am – 2 pm, so do go along and give them a hand for half an hour if you’re free – or send non-vegan friends in their direction!
The following day, Saturday 2 November, we’ll be back in Bedford Square again with a stall to mark the start of Animal Aid’s Warfare Experiment Awareness Week. Many people are unaware of the horrific suffering inflicted on animals behind closed doors in the name of warfare research. We’ll have postcards to send to your MP, asking them to write to the minister responsible for animal experiments about this important issue, so once again, please come along and encourage others to do so. You can find out more about the campaign here
On Saturday 30 November, we’ll be doing a bit of fundraising for animal causes by donning our hi-viz and running the Barnfield charity car park for a day.
And finally, on Friday 6 December, we’ll be getting together in time-honoured tradition with the local League Against Sports group for our annual Christmas party at Herbies. If you’ve never been before, expect fabulous vegan feasting, Pete’s fiendish quiz and the inevitable sing-song! If you’d like to join us, please email Peter Reeves to book a place. As usual, a £5 deposit per head is required – the rest can be paid on the night. The menu is up now on the Herbies Facebook page if you want to have a peek.
