An East Devon response to the Autumn Statement

A mixed response…

.

At the beginning of the week, South West businesses were hoping for certain things from the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement to help boost growth and tackle the cost of living crisis, as covered by the Business Live site.

However, days later, there was some disappointment from businesses who felt the region has been ‘overlooked’ in the Autumn Statement – although it was a mixed bag of responses from the same businesses quizzed by Business Live earlier in the week.

Elsewhere, it was clear that the South West’s businesses welcome a ‘budget for business’, but warn smaller firms may not feel the benefit – and there was a mixed response over the announcement on business rates – which this column looked at yesterday.

Inevitably, opinions from MPs were divided across the region according to political affiliation, whether in North Devon, in Mid Devon – and in East Devon: Simon Jupp MP on X: “The #AutumnStatement delivered for Devon and Richard Foord MP on X: “This Autumn Statement was a Hunt hoax.”
