Funding can be used to purchase equipment such as solar PV, air-sourced heat pumps, insulation, LED lighting, etc. [East Devon District Council]
Last year’s grant to install solar panels “enabled Sidmouth Rugby Football Club to take meaningful steps toward decarbonisation“.
.
Last year in East Devon, the district council’s Carbon Action Fund (CAF) provided grant funding to both businesses and community organisations to decarbonise their premises and production processes.
Last year’s case studies include Sidmouth community groups:
Sidmouth Hospice at Home – £10,846 – Sidmouth Hospice at Home received funding to install a 9kW solar panel system with a 20kW battery. This will save them around £3,400 a year, reducing the running costs of a vital community facility.
Sidmouth Rugby Football Club – £30,000 – Sidmouth Rugby Football Club received a grant to install a 30kW solar PV system with battery storage on its main roof slopes. They predict this will save the club around £4,000 a year and allow them to export excess energy to the grid.
The Herald covered it at the time, looking at East Devon District Council Carbon Action Fund grants:
Matthew Barrett, chairman of Sidmouth Rugby Football Club, said: “Our funding, secured through a successful bid, will enable Sidmouth Rugby Football Club to take meaningful steps toward decarbonisation. With this award, Sidmouth Rugby Football Club remains dedicated to providing exceptional rugby opportunities in Sidmouth, promoting environmental responsibility and advancing sustainable practices within the community.”
And as of next month, this year’s Carbon Action Fund opens:

We plan to reopen the scheme in late September 2025 and recommend potential applicants sign-up to our Carbon Action Programme for when support becomes available.
With a few more details here:
The purpose of this grant scheme is to provide funding for businesses and community organisations in East Devon to decarbonise their premises or to reuse/reduce waste in their production process. Funding can be used to purchase equipment such as solar PV, air-sourced heat pumps, insulation, LED lighting, etc. Multiple pieces of equipment can be applied for and the grant can also cover installation costs.
Applicants can apply for up to £30,000 per individual business or community organisation. The minimum funding request is £2,000. All grants will be paid upfront. Businesses will need to match-fund at least 30% of their total project cost. For, community organisations, they must match-fund at least 10%.
So, why not apply?!
