These are very difficult times for businesses – especially the hospitality business.

So when many are jumping in to help out over half-term, it’s quite something:

Devon pubs, cafes and restaurants offering to feed kids over half term – Devon Live

And just over the hill in Budleigh, one café has hit the headlines:

Devon cafe offers free child lunch amid school meals row – BBC News

With Devon Live reporting earlier today:

Marcus Rashford acknowledges Devon Cafe in tweet

The Gingerbread house cafe is among many Devon establishments helping children get free meals over the holidays. Owners Chris and Kerry said: “Being parents ourselves we don’t believe any child should be hungry at any time”

They’re now offering a free takeaway lunch for children which includes a sandwich, packet of crisps, piece of fruit and juice all throughout half term. People in the local community are now donating for the cost of the owners doing this…

This resulted in Marcus Rashford acknowledging their kindness by retweeting a BBC News article about the cafe.

With the Gingerbread House itself commenting:

Hi guys
What a incredible 24 hours we’ve had, so many more businesses have offered free school meals throughout half term and I’ve seen McDonald’s have donated 1 million meals.🧡
Our go fund me page I’s now over a thousand pounds as well. If you can please keep the donations coming.
Catch us tonight on BBC spotlight at 6.30 and tomorrow in the daily Mirror.
We are so proud to be part of this amazing community 🧡
We’re going to continue writing to MPs and making ourselves heard until the law is changed.
