There’s a lot of art and culture happening in East Devon: Networking culture & heritage across East Devon – Vision Group for Sidmouth

And in Sidmouth:

The latest masterpiece from the Sidmouth School of Art has taken centre stage at the Sidmouth Wall space public art gallery overlooking the Ham East carpark. Titled “A Sidmouth Map,” this abstract artwork visually represents Sidmouth’s thriving art and cultural scene. Artistic cartography as Sidmouth School of Art puts the town on the map – Devon Live

With much more on the Sidmouth School of Art website:

Sidmouth has a rich and eclectic mix of places, spaces, people, groups and events that contribute to its cultural life. Sidmouth School of Art wanted to explore this diversity – to celebrate it, collaborate and explore new opportunities. So, we commissioned Emma Molony to conduct community research and create an artwork to represent what she found. Cultural Community Mapping | Sidmouth School Of Art

And the Sidmouth School of Art would like to encourage a little more creative engagement:

Calling All Volunteers… Celebrating Sidmouth Volunteers

Sidmouth School of Art and Sid Valley Help are collaborating on a new community art project to celebrate the many and varied volunteers who are the backbone of our community. We would like to find out from you as a volunteer, a bit more about your experience.

The survey insights will feed into a new artwork for Sidmouth Wallspace billboard, and to a series of portrait and sculpture workshops as part of the South West Art Summer School in August.

The learning and artworks will form an exhibition in December 2023, in celebration of the valuable role played by volunteers of all walks of life and in all areas of life.

In the meantime, new workshops are on offer:

As part of the project we are also running a series of small artist led workshops and are looking for a small group of volunteers to represent the diverse cross section of ages and types of volunteering that take place in Sidmouth to try your/their hand at painting a portrait or making a plasticine head or to be a model for those creating the portraits and sculptures. This will help us to capture, share and celebrate the contribution volunteers make to community life.

The workshops will take place at South West Arts, Old Fore Street, Sidmouth EX10 8LP at the following times and dates:

Natasha Hayball – Portraits – Mon 7th Aug 10 – 2.30 and Tues 8th Aug 10.30 – 2.30

Wilfrid Wood – Plasticine Head Sculpture – Wed 9th Aug 10.30 – 12.30, Thursday 10th August 10.30 – 12.30 and 2pm – 4pm for 11 – 16 year olds.
