Cycle to School Week 2025

Press Release

It’s National Cycle to School week from October 13 to 17th: https://www.bikeability.org.uk/cycletoschoolweek/

Sidmouth Cycling Campaign are helping parents organise a group cycle ride from Sidbury to Sidmouth College on Monday 13th October, to demonstrate the need for a separate, safe off-road cycle path to school.

Students and parents will leave Sidbury Village Hall at 8.15am to cycle down the main road in a group.

There has been a call for a safe route from Sidbury to Sidford for pedestrians and cyclists for many years. The two communities are joined by the A375, which is the main road from Sidmouth to Honiton. This is a narrow winding road without a footway.

Devon County Council is proposing to stop the current school bus to Sidmouth College, raising concerns about how pupils will get to school.

The County Council has planning permission for an off-road multi-use path, but no funding or timescale for delivery.

The group cycle ride on 13th October will demonstrate that pupils are keen to cycle to school if they are given the opportunity.
