Free half-term workshops: where art and nature meet

Pop down and make some art!

.

Through art and creativity, the Sidmouth School Of Art, the Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub and the Sidmouth Sea Fest work really hard towards a sustainable Sidmouth.

As they say, “we are not only environmentally focused and we work in a variety of aims for a shared sustainable purpose, but hope that collectively we are all helping to make a difference especially through public engagement.”

And their projects are always highly engaging and inclusionary.

So, this time last year, in the new Riverside Art Space on the Ham, they put together an inspiring gabion art trail at the Ham Sensory Garden. And as always, the Sea Fest offers a delightful mix of art, culture, heritage and environmental projects – for example, with the the Bicycle Ballet coming to the Sidmouth SeaFest a couple of years ago.

This autumn their joint efforts bring more engaging projects for the community focussing on sustainability – kicking off next week during half term.

From next Monday 27th, their latest project Confluence – the River Sid and Its Tributaries “brings people, ideas, knowledge and action together to protect, conserve and enhance the river and its tributaries.”

Sidmouth School of Art in collaboration with The River Sid Catchment Group Group have put together a series of discovery workshops with Sidmouth and Sidbury Primary Schools, the Sid Valley Memory Café and the public.

Why not pop down and make some art!

And as of Thursday 30th October (also next week as part of half term), as part of COP 30,  Sidmouth School Of Art will be working to create “a visual response to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in November 2025 in Brazil” – with a new project inspired by and coordinated by Brazilian Sidmouth Resident and artist Lucia Cooper with the support of her family and Maureen and Mike Hawkridge.

They hope to bring the voice of young people into the project through a series of art workshops in the autumn. So, more opportunities to do art and help the environment!

All of this anticipates the fabulous Wallspace – “transforming an unloved space overlooking a car park by the sea in Sidmouth” – where the art works will be displayed.

And, finally, it looks forward to the wonderful Sidmouth Sea Fest itself next May:

Importantly, looking at the impact of Sidmouth’s festivals, it is significant the Sea Fest is a Changemaker Champion: all their projects and particularly Sea Fest are rooted in sustainable practices holistically in terms of people and place, wellbeing and environment.
