Get your blood pressure checked!

The South West of England has the highest proportion of people in England with untreated hypertension – and there is now an NHS campaign to save lives from high blood pressure:

More than a thousand people a year in the South West could be spared death if more patients with high blood pressure were treated, according to NHS figures. The region has the highest proportion of people in England with untreated hypertension, with only 65% of adults seeing a GP about their condition. The NHS said 1,330 heart attacks and strokes could be prevented each year, if the national target of 77% was met.

There is a lot of help at hand, however.

NHS England in the South West has a programme “know your numbers” – encouraging people to have their blood pressure measured.

And that includes making use of South West pharmacies to treat common conditions without a GP referral:

“In addition, our pharmacies in the South West are aiming to provide in excess of 250,000 blood pressure checks by Spring 2025. One in three adults in the UK have high blood pressure, with many not even realising they do, so by carrying out these vital health checks, many lives could be saved.”

So, it’s pretty straightforward to get your blood pressure checked!
