The sale of Sidmouth Drill Hall

The Drill Hall was ‘sold’ to Rockfish but due to Covid 19 work didn’t start on it and now the situation is unclear. Will they still purchase a lease on it or have their plans changed?

Written in 2018

After several false starts the 6 months of marketing the Drill Hall to community groups began on 4th August 2018 and bids have to be in by noon on the 4th Feb 2019. For the final 3 months of this period commercial businesses will also be contacted and encouraged to bid.

The Neighbourhood Plan collected opinions about the Drill Hall ( as well as many other things), the Sid Vale Association carried out a survey of their members attitudes, and of course it has been reported of in the Futures Forum Blog. The Drill Hall Rescue site is the site which campaigns for the retention of the building, the Drill Hall Research site documents its history, and now we have the site for Sidmouth Sunrise too which is the Community Interest Company which will be creating the community bid for the hall.

Sidmouth Sunrise is headed by Gillian Mitchell and it is her task to formulate a business plan which will both attract funding and convince East Devon District Council that the community bid should be favoured above any commercial bid.
