Of course Sidmouth has always attracted the slightly-older demographic.
Although we perhaps need to be debunking the headline that ‘Sidmouth has the highest proportion of residents aged over 90 in England, care homes will naturally say why Sidmouth in Devon is the ideal place to retire – with local amenities, attractions and community spirit.
But actually, there is a much wider appeal to the place, which can satisfy very different tastes, from walkers to heritage-junkies, from sporty types to festival-goers. The tourist board will give us fascinating facts about Sidmouth’s seaside past on the one hand, and on the other Jeremy Vine will say why his family love holidaying in Devon.
To look back at a piece from these pages from almost three years ago, Sidmouth is one of the ‘best places to live in 2023’ with “unspoilt open spaces and a buzzing town centre”.

And in an ‘exclusive piece’ this week, the Daily Express looks at Sidmouth: The magical UK seaside town that’s ‘frozen in time’ and barely gets any tourists in winter:
The town sits among spectacular countryside, has beaches, walking paths, independent shops and stylish places to eat.
A quiet coastal town on the Devon coast is being called a place “frozen in time” where visitors say they can enjoy peaceful beaches and cliff walks with hardly anyone around. While many seaside destinations are packed in the summer months, winter brings a different pace of life and a chance to experience a calm break by the sea.
To find out more about what makes the town so special, the Express joined a Facebook group where people share photos and memories from their trips. Members told us why they chose the town for a winter getaway and what they enjoyed most during their stay.
Sounds like a nice place to live and visit!
