A shop selling candles created from scrap wax has opened in the heart of Exeter’s indie shopping district.

The Recycled Candle Company is the only candle recycling business in the UK – shoppers looking for a combination of luxury goods with a strong green ethos have been flocking to the store to browse the candles.

The unique venture was the brainchild of Richard Hills-Ingyon, whose interest in candle making started at an early age. Richard then met architect Sargon Latchin in London and together they formulated the idea for The Recycled Candle Company, opening their first shop in Ottery St Mary in 2017.

Now, they’ve expanded and moved their business over to Exeter.

Richard, who grew up in Sidbury, said: “The concept is simple; wax from used candles is melted down, filtered, dyed and scented to create beautiful new candles. As far as we know, we’re the only company providing this opportunity for recycling candle wax in the UK, if not the world.”
