Transition initiatives happening … everywhere

  • by JW

“What do you want to see in your neighborhood and what can you do today to make it happen?”

.

There are lots of inspiriting projects under way, as relayed by the Transition Network over the last couple of weeks:

From the States:

surplus fruits and veggies

While many people talk about self-sufficiency as a response to social and ecological crises, #Transition groups all over the world are working towards community-sufficiency. Showing care for our planet as well as sharing food, knowledge and resources with our neighbours and wider communities.

Calling all gardeners! There are folks in our community living in their cars or just struggling with high food prices who could use any excess garden goodies you might have to share. It’s easy to do – Transition Fidalgo has 3 produce stands in Anacortes ready to accept your surplus fruits and veggies at any time.

From Croatia:

What do you want to see in your neighborhood and what can you do today to make it happen?

For those who don’t know yet, the Zelenica Cooperative is one of the projects of Udruga Vestigium The association was formed in Vrbani, 2011. it was initiated by 6 women, who lacked socio-cultural content in the neighborhood. They rented office space and started conducting workshops for children, exercising, making natural cosmetics, began purchasing vegetables from opgs, organizing small neighborhood festivals…

Today the association has over 200 members, 50 volunteers and annually over 1000 terms of various activities are conducted in the association. The point is that the change we want to see in the world – is actually in us – we are the ones we’ve been waiting for! And the question for you is – what do you want to see in your neighborhood and what can you do today to make it happen?
