This month’s piece for the Sidmouth Herald from the VGS chair looks at that thing called ‘sustainability’: “Sidmouth’s sustainable future is the key discussion point that the Vision Group for Sidmouth are focusing on; inspiring projects and generating ideas“: Vision Group for Sidmouth working for a sustainable future | Sidmouth Herald

Helpfully, author Ian Gregory gives some concrete examples.

The Friends of Glen Goyle are very much about looking to a sustainable future for this charming stream-side park in the heart of the town. It’s about enhancing biodiversity: Very early spring along the Glen – Friends of Glen Goyle And it’s about sympathetically restoring the gardens: A walk along the Glen: a site visit – Friends of Glen Goyle Wander down and have look for yourself!

“MBut much of our work is driven by loyal and dedicated volunteers.”

We are also receiving many green-fingered and other applicants in our Sustainable Sidmouth Champions Awards. “Actions to live, work and use our leisure time more sustainably should be recognised and promoted and an entry into the awards scheme will do just that.” Details of the scheme can be found on the website: Enter the Champions Awards 2023 – Sustainable Sidmouth Champion Awards Why not enter your business or neighbour!

We are about to announce the results of the questionnaire from the Sidmouth Cycling Campaign – Vision Group for Sidmouth. “We continue with our mission to promote safe and pleasant cycle routes in and out of the Sid Valley.” So, watch this space!

And finally, “At VGS we also consider proposals from the District Council which impact Sidmouth and the surrounding area.” And of the moment there are proposals to extend street-trading in the town. Street Trading Policy Consultation 2023 – East Devon The VGS will be making its own submission – based on studies of the proposals’ impact on the local economy and streetscape: Do we want street trading in Sidmouth? – Vision Group for Sidmouth You have until midnight Sunday 26th if you’d like to contribute!

We’ll see what the VGS chair Ian provides the Herald with next month!
