Last night saw the final parliamentary hustings taking place in East Devon:
Here’s a photo plus comment from one attendee:
“Standing room only at All Saints church in Sidmouth for final hustings. 150 people, lots of questions. Democracy in action.”
And more comment and photography from another attendee:
With extracts from a short report from another attendee here:
“… the large audience who attended the hustings at All Saints Church Hall, organised by the Vision Group for Sidmouth.
The Tory candidate, Simon Jupp, had agreed to be there, but withdrew at the last minute, citing an alternative commitment to appearances at late-night shopping events at Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton that evening. Mr Jupp’s agent’s letter, courteously read out by Vision Group’s Peter Murphy, who Chaired the meeting, prompted loud guffaws from the floor.
All candidates acquitted themselves well… “
There has indeed been a lot of comment from other constituencies which have been missing key candidates at hustings:
“Local hustings are a pillar of local democracy. Every local resident should have the right to ask all their candidates questions and hear their views.”
Meanwhile back in East Devon, the Conservative candidate made clear on Twitter that he was busy attending other events last night:
One of the independent candidates also has very busy Twitter and Facebook accounts, also with lots of comment:
Here is a final photo from the Sidmouth hustings on the Sidmouth Community Facebook pages:
