Launch of Sid Valley Biodiversity Group

  • by JW

This is a chance for each of us to play a part in enhancing our wonderful environment and sharing in its richness.

.

Earlier in the year, the Science Festival put together a group “to suggest how to green up Sidmouth, improving biodiversity and horticulture”:

The Clean Growth project from the Science Festival – Vision Group for Sidmouth

.

Over the past months, this group has met up several times (mostly on-line) and has now formally put together the ‘Sid Valley Biodiversity Group’.

.

Here are today’s pieces from the online media marking the launch of the Group:

SID VALLEY BIODIVERSITY GROUP LAUNCH

.

.

How often do you marvel at our local environment? Are you concerned our wildlife is struggling with climate change and loss of habitat? From the enthusiasm of a small group of people, and growing out of the success of the Sidmouth Science Festival, the new Sid Valley Biodiversity Group has launched.

The aims of the group are to understand and record what is most valuable about the wildlife in the Sid Valley. We will talk to landowners and businesses and build on the existing expertise in our community. We will make extensive new surveys looking in our gardens, in the parks, on the cliffs, the shore, the heathland, the woodlands, farmland and of course the River Sid. We want to create opportunities to enrich and diversify our wildlife. We wish to celebrate its intrinsic value, its fantastic contribution to our quality of life and to report this all back to you.

Many of us during lockdown have felt a closer connection to nature. If you have a passion for wildlife then we would love to hear from you. This is a chance for each of us to play a part in enhancing our wonderful environment and sharing in its richness. Please contact jw.beeproject@gmail.com for further information.
