The town council has been working with the Arboretum in creating new wooded areas across the Sid Valley – the idea being to plant a young tree or hedge whip for everyone who lives here. By February this year, more than 9,500 had been planted, and the new planting season has just begun.
Similarly, the county council has been busy since the beginning of the year, with 10,000 trees being planted with help of new tree funding under the Local Authority Treescapes Fund and from the Emergency Tree Fund granted by The Woodland Trust.
And the district council has also been working with the same funds – and with the same intention of getting more whips planted. Its latest initiative is asking people to have your say today – Help to preserve East Devon’s Treescape:
East Devon District Council is pleased to propose five sites across the district for planting young tree whips. These trees will evolve into small copses, pocket woodlands, and a community Tiny Forest, creating a vibrant network of habitats. This initiative not only enhances our environment but also provides numerous benefits for wildlife and our community. The project is part of the Emergency Tree Fund, overseen by Devon County Council and supported by funding from the Woodland Trust.
Help us make a difference! Have your say until 28/10/2024 at 5pm
There are five areas being proposed:
