East Devon Local Plan consultation: VGS review of the final draft 2025

.

Over the years, the VGS has done its bit and submitted comment on the different iterations of the East Devon Local Plan. After all, one of our main remits when we were set up twenty years ago was “to commend our vision to the Local Development Framework”.

The last East Devon Local Plan consultation resulted in the VGS submission 2023, but there has been a lot of work done since then by the council and its officers.

They have now produced their final version, which is now at the rather legalistically-sounding stage of the Regulation 19 Local Plan Consultation.

Or, in more accessible language at the page Have Your Say Today – East Devon Local Plan – Regulation 19 – Commonplace:

The East Devon Local Plan Regulation 19 consultation provides an opportunity to review the final draft local development plan, with all submitted comments to be passed directly to the Planning Inspector for examination. We invite residents, businesses, and stakeholders to carefully review the proposed policies and site allocations, understanding that your feedback will form part of the official submission to the independent planning review process.

And so we are invited to review the planners’ final version before it goes to the inspector – in particular to say whether we think the plan is ‘sound’ and can be ‘justified’.

We can click on a particular chapter to provide comment – and the VGS has focussed on perhaps the most contentious, namely:

Chapter 8: Meeting Housing Needs – East Devon Local Plan – Regulation 19.

Here is the VGS review of this chapter on ‘Meeting Housing Needs’ in the final draft ED Local Development Plan – which has been put onto the online form at the Commonplace website: VGS submission to ED Local Plan consultation – focussing on meeting housing needs – March 2025 – final version

Also, attached to the feedback form are the three documents making up the Housing Needs Assessment, commissioned by Sidmouth Town Council:
